This is my new cousin Karla (new because she was Drew’s cousin first, but really we’ve been cousins for a while)

she’s fantastic. In September, she and her husband Kennedy (also fantastic) had twins! We are so excited for them, and I knew she should have something special to commemorate. September’s birthstone is sapphire, so I thought a little representation of the twins would be perfect.

Two little sapphires, two little September babies. Huge congratulations to K+K.
it’s bridal market in new york this week (like fashion week, for weddings) and as i watch amazing images come in, thanks especially to Weddings Unveiled ‘s daily posts and tweets from the shows, i’ve been thinking a lot about choosing the dress that is right for you.
i was watching a show about that very subject the other day (three guesses what show i’m talking about..). one of the brides tried on a beautiful dress, and the first words out of her mouth, while still in the dressing room with the shop attendant, were “i feel like myself in this dress.”
that’s the key, that’s the feeling that everyone talks about. because you may love lots and lots of dresses. I tried on 17 in one day, and i loved many of them. they were all beautiful. but i couldn’t shake the feeling in a lot of them that i felt as if i was playing the role “bride”. but there was one, the first one i tried on, actually, but i had to try it on second time after sifting through the stack, that made me feel beautiful, happy, it was just me.

isn’t that the face of someone who feels like herself?
now, for choosing the other “one”, i don’t know how much advice i can give on that. except, maybe it’s the same. you gotta feel like yourself.
though i haven’t posted in quite a while, there has been some work going on here, check out the “jewelry gallery” tab above to see wonderful photos of many of my pieces.
i’ve also been working on a super secret project, more on that soon!
and the hansels have been hard at work creating our tv room and dining room, hopefully there will be pictures quite soon!
my friend alex is the the awesome sort of friend who will address all your wedding invites in her amazing handwriting, in exchange for a few home cooked meals and some wii tournaments. she also will do mini sketches for you to hang in your house, and take tons of pictures of jali screens during her study abroad in india, so you can decorate your family room with them. a wonderful person to know.
when she graduated from UNC this spring, and moved all the way to miami, i knew i wanted to make her something special. but for weeks i was stuck on what exactly that would be. she’s artistic and fashion forward, i knew it had to be just right. and then i thought about how she always talked about this dress, from tillvaro designs, a line created by her highschool classmate.

and i thought, hey, something in that color scheme would go great with both that dress and the one she wore to our wedding! (i love multi use pieces!)
and once again, alex was awesome enough to set up a photo shoot and get really great pictures of them.
i really love designing for a particular outfit, or outfits. knowing how the colors and proportions will work gives me such focus and inspiration.
in the spirit of my business mentor, i’ll be posting semi regular goals. sometimes months go by too fast, so i’ll probably do a general fall post next time – things to do before thanksgiving. but these are my plans for the last few weeks of summertime (can’t think of fall until i stop seeing 90s on my thermometer!), both personal and professional:
